We offer Communion, also called the Lord’s Supper, on the first Sunday of every month. We welcome any Christian to take it with us. You don’t have to be a member of our church to participate.
As our Statement of Faith reads, “We believe the Lord’s Supper is communion with Christ, the bread and cup spiritually signifying the body and blood of Christ. We regularly partake in this ordinance to memorialize the sacrificial love of Christ and to commune with covenant members of our church. We prepare with solemn self-examination, confession of sin, and restoration of relationships.”
We remember why Jesus died on the cross. He died for us. This was God’s perfect plan to redeem us. The Old Testament teaches that without the shedding of blood; there is no forgiveness of sins. Jesus shed His blood for our sins. He fulfilled the Old Covenant which is why He said that the cup we drink is the blood of the New Covenant.
1 Corinthians 11:26 says, “For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.”
The cross is not just a piece of jewelry; it is the reason we have forgiveness.
We solemnly self-examine our thoughts and actions knowing God wants us to worship Him with a pure heart. If we find sin in us, we confess that to God. Confession isn’t a surprise to God. He knows already. Confession is agreeing with God.
1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Not only do we confess our sin. We also repent from it. Repentance is not saying sorry to get out of trouble. Repentance is turning AWAY from sin and turning TO Jesus.
Jesus once said if you have something against your brother, then you should make things right before worship God. Paul wrote to the Ephesian church to be eager to maintain unity in the church. A healthy church strives to restore relationships. No church is perfect, but we must work hard at loving one another. We must be willing to forgive one another. Then, we can worship God together as one in Christ.
1 Corinthians 10:16-17, “The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a communing, a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not communing in the body of Christ? Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread.”
